HARDDISK PROBLEM WITH SOLUTIONS

PROBLEM WITH HARD DISK

Hard disk is the main storage device of the computer and if there is any problem in it, the display can be received in the system but it does not work.

SIMPLE PROBLEMS

1. Display is ok no booting with hard disk c: drive letter is changing when it is booted from any other drive.

. First of all the try to detect the hard disk in BIOS, after it is detected, boot the system from a bootable floppy or bootable CD, after that if the drive of the hard disk is being received and any file is being created on it or file read if can be done, only its system damage is there. Check by installing OS.

. Even after installing OS, if the system is not booting from the hard disk, then it means that the partition table of the hard disk has not been activated.

. Activate it by Fdisk’s active partition option. If the problem persists even after activating, then type a:\>Fdisk/MBR command type, this will repair the partition table of the hard disk.

. if c: drive is being received but is showing data error on read/write on it, then this hard disk has become unusable, no modern OS and software can be installed on it, but it can be done by doing low level format. Old version software like DOS, WIN 31 etc.can only be used by dividing it in some drive letters.

. If the correct size of the hard disk is not configured in the hard disk, then even the hard disk will not boot from it. Due to some lower capacity hard disk wrong configuration, booting the system from any other drive shows c: drive but does not boot from c: drive.

. If the hard disk is partitioned with FAT32 and system is booted by DOS 6.22’s bootable floppy, then the A: drive to C: drive letter will not be able to change, but the invalid drive specification error will be received. This happens because of FAT 16 not being able to sense the partition of FAT 32.

2. Hard disk format is not getting formatted up to a few percent “format terminated” message is coming.

·Hard disk has a lot of bad sectors. Format it with low level format or software like disk manager.

3. System is not booting from hard disk. (Detecting in CMOS)

·        Boot the system from floppy or CD and go to C: drive. After receiving the C: drive, try read/write on it, repair its partition table after read write, by giving the command “A:\>Fdisk/MBR”, and check by booting the system from the hard disk. After booting from floppy to get C: drive by booting DOS 6.22 through bootable floppy invalid drive will get message, this is due to FAT 16 not being able to read FAT32.

·        Configure hard disk correctly in CMOS even if partition repair by Fdisk/MBR does not work. If the problem still persists, the hard disk is of “Seagate” brand, then format it through DM (disk manager) software and make it bootable.

·        If you are getting the message of “invalid drive specification” A” drive to C” drive despite being detected in CMOS, then the hard disk partition damage is done. Partition it by Fdisk and install OS or after installing os, when you put the hard disk in another system, then this problem can also come due to change of motherboard. For this, connect the hard disk to the same system and install os and other software in which it is used.

4. Hard disk is not getting detected in the CMOS setup of the Bios.

·        Check hard disk’s cable comeetion, power connection and jumper setting and detect hard disk. If not detected, try replacing the HDD cable by powering the hard disk with another power connector.

·        Both hard disk and CD drive would have become master or both would have become salve, so hard disk detect will not happen.

·        In some motherboards, hard disk of very low capacity and very high capacity are not detected, also check the fact.

·        Even after checking all the above things, if the hard disk is not being detected, then it means that the hard disk has become defective.

·        If there I no sound even after powering on the hard disk, it means that the circuit in the hard disk is bad.

·        If there is a loud noise coming from the hard disk and shutting down or the sound of knocking is coming then there is a media crash of the hard disk.

·        If hard disk detection is happening but it is not booting and giving a knocking sound, even then the hard disk has been damaged. Scratch came in its media.

·        Hard disk is getting detected but format is not happening on giving format command “track 0 bad” information is coming. So much hard disk has also been damaged and try to format it through low level format located in BIOS, even if it is not formatted hard disk has become unusable.

·        If data error is showing in any hard disk and it starts working after ignoring it, then data backup should be taken quickly and should be done in low level format. The area with sectors should be made a separate drive letter and it should be erased by delete partition, this can mask the area with bad sector.
